A man from Gleason

GLEASON HIGH SCHOOL 1929/1982

September 28, 2009
This is where I started school. My Grandfather Henry Brummitt drove the horse and wagon up the middle of the school yard and turned the wagon around and let me out the back on my first day there. My first grade teacher was Edith Rushing. She was the wife of my cousin Paul Rushing, so I called her Cousin Edith.

My beginnings in Gleason were humble

September 17, 2009

My relatives on the Brummitt side came from North Carolina. Where they were before that is not known.
I came into this world in 1940 on a cold January day! How do I know this? Well....I have not saw a warm January day, so I  am guessing!
I sometimes wonder what my life would have been like if I had stayed in Gleason! It's a nice little town, with nice folks living there. I got to visit there in August of 2008 at the 50th reunion of my old school class.
All my childhood memories are still there with some changes of course!
There are not a bunch of horses and wagons parked there any more, only automobiles now.
It's hard to believe that I am almost 70 years old, and this is 2009!
My grandfather Henry Brummitt drove me to school on my first day about 1947 or 48 in a horse and wagon.
He went right up the middle of the school yard, and turned the wagon around, and let me out the back of the wagon!
My Fathers people came from Kentucky, and before that I have not discovered as of yet!
They would not know what to think of the world we live in today! Sometimes I have a problem with that myself!
This is only the beginning of my story!
